Description

The Tenants Union provides non-legal online information, advocacy, and in-person counseling on housing matters in SF. They do not provide legal advice or legal services. They act more as a support center for self-help and are mostly run by volunteers.

Ways to Contact

The Tenants Union does not schedule appointments. Come in person during counseling hours (see schedule here). Fill out this intake form before going to the clinic. For Spanish-language-only speakers, call 628.867.6675.

Process

The drop-in clinic is available for both members and nonmembers. If you purchase a membership, you will also gain access to a members-only hotline.

Notes

Do not go to the clinic if you have been served with a Summons and Complaint For Unlawful Detainer, as they will not be able to assist you.

Their building is not wheelchair accessible. If you are a tenant with physical disabilities that prevent you from climbing 12 steps, please send an email to info@stfu.org so they can make accommodations to give you access to their services. Allow two business days for a reply.

Collect key information in advance if possible: case numbers, names of key people, court dates and deadlines, documents related to the issue, and any questions you have.

They recommend you arrive early because the shift may fill and then close.
